\n\nWest Ham United have stepped up their pursuit of Andy Carroll with a club record bid worth £17 million for the Liverpool striker.

The Hammers have offered to take Carroll on loan with a view to a permanent deal next summer if the club avoid relegation in the coming season.
Carroll, 23, is understood to be reluctant to move to Upton Park and would ideally like to fight for his place at Liverpool, even though new manager Brendan Rodgers does not consider him as a regular starter.
The striker would prefer a return to his former club Newcastle, who remain interested in the England international after offering to loan him next season with the option of a £15m transfer next summer.
That bid was rejected by Liverpool, who want more than £20m for a player who cost £35m when he arrived from Tyneside in January 2011. The Reds will also refuse to contemplate subsidising any of Carroll’s £80,000-a-week wages.
West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has targeted Carroll as he is desperate to land a striker to lead the line next term following West Ham’s promotion to the Premier League.
Allardyce shares an agent with Carroll and is also hopeful that the forward’s good friendship with Hammers captain Kevin Nolan will work in the Londoners’ favour.
A deal for Carroll would smash West Ham’s transfer record of £7.5m paid to sign Craig Bellamy in 2007 and much could depend on talks planned between Rodgers and Carroll.
Rodgers is believed to be ready to tell Carroll that he will not get regular playing time at Anfield next season and the Ulsterman would like funds to reinvest in the squad and aid their challenge for a top-four finish |

Liverpool could offer Adam to Fulham as makeweight in Dempsey deal
The Scottish midfielder struggled to make an impression in his debut season at Anfield and, if Joe Allen is bought from Swansea City, may be used to grease the American's move
Jul 21, 2012 10:45:00 PM
MORE ON : Fulham, Liverpool, Clint Dempsey, Charlie Adam
The midfielder, signed from Blackpool last summer, failed to shine during his debut season at Anfield and could be pushed further down the pecking order if a Reds move for Swansea City’s Joe Allen materialises.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he has made an enquiry for Dempsey, for whom Goal.com understands they will make a bid once the future of Andy Carroll has been resolved, and could be convinced to part with the Scot to make it happen.
The signing of Allen appears to be crucial and new Swans boss Michael Laudrup would not rule out the Welshman’s departure, explaining that he is prepared for such an event, with the player’s feelings to be taken into account.
"You always have to be one step ahead so we have to be prepared for everything," he told reporters. "It’s not only in this case, but with each position in the team.
"When the transfer window closes on August 31 you can breathe a sigh of relief, but you only have three or four months when people do not talk about transfers because then you look ahead to January 1. It will be the same then.
"You have to think about the present window as well as the future, which will be the winter window, but we obviously want to be able to have the best possible team available.
"I haven’t spoken to Joe since I have taken over. I haven’t spoken to any of the three Olympics players and we have not had any contact from Liverpool.
"I am in contact with the chairman every day. We agree that if there will be an approach then we will have to talk to the player. We cannot just answer 100 per cent yes or no without having talked to the player.
"That’s a problem because he has to concentrate on the Olympics but we will have to deal with that if and when it comes to that.
"You can force players to stay but how does that help? It doesn’t work like that. It’s better to find a solution that suits both parties."
The Dane also denied suggestions that he had tabled a bid for Bolton midfielder Mark Davies, writing the story off as a convenient rumour.
"We have made no approach," Laudrup insisted. "He’s a good player, but it is just rumours.
"I can imagine why there are these rumours because you also have the rumour about Joe Allen and Liverpool." |

Bale: Adam´s a coward
30 July 2012
Tottenham's Gareth Bale has called Liverpool's Charlie Adam a "coward" following a nasty tackle in the teams' friendly in Baltimore.
The pair have history, with Adam causing Bale ankle ligament damage in 2011 which kept him on the sidelines for three months, and the Spurs man said the latest tackle was "over the top" as he left the stadium on crutches.
"From what I've seen of him on pitch, I think he's a bit of a coward," Bale told reporters.
"I was surprised to see a challenge like that in a friendly. We're all over here to build our fitness and get a good workout and what he did as over the top, to be honest.
"But some people are like that and it's just wrong.
"My ankle is sore - very, very sore. We'll have to wait and see how it goes. I'll probably have to have a scan.
"There are pictures on the internet of what he did before when he snapped all my ankle ligaments.
"I was out for three months that time and one player told me he went out to do the same thing to me again.
"Seriously, I haven't ever done anything to him. He's obviously come for me twice now - and he's got me twice.
"I would have understood it had it been a slightly mis-timed tackle, even though it was just a friendly. But the ball was 10 yards past him already and was nowhere near him when he came through my ankle.
"When someone makes a very bad tackle on you in a game you expect him to come up and apologise. But I've had no apology from him and I don't really want one from him to be honest.
"That's what kind of person he is like. He's done it before, so I'm not going to accept his apology.
"All I want to do is play my game and play it the right way. It's flattering when players try to take you out in a game but when it threatens your career, it becomes more serious than that.
"It's unsportsmanlike and I don't think any player should be like that." |

Olympics Soccer 2012: Best Players You Haven't Heard of Yet
(1)Milo, Defender, Egypt
Milo's full name is Elsam Ramadan and he is a talented defender for Haras El-Hodood in the Egyptian Premier League.
He is a versatile player who can play in any spot along the back line.
His skill has caught the attention of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has been keeping a close eye on the Egyptian international for the past three years, accord to Sky Sports' Graeme Bailey.
Milo will not shine like some of the other players in the tournament, as he will not be scoring many goals. But his solid defensive play will catch the eye of the European clubs.
(2)Gaston Ramirez, Midfielder, Uruguay
Gaston Ramirez will wear the No. 10 jersey for Uruguay and will live up to all the expectations that come with that.
The 21-year-old scored eight goals and dished out four assists in for Bologna in Serie A last season. He was especially strong late in the year and has attracted the attention of several big clubs, including Liverpool and Napoli.
He will have the luxury of finding Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani with his passes, and both players will likely try and convince him to come to their club.
Ramirez will prove his talent in London, and he may be set for a permanent move to England after the tournament is over.
(3)Isco, Midfielder, Spain
Isco is an attacking midfielder who plays for Malaga in La Liga. He will establish himself as yet another bright young Spanish star in London.
He scored five goals and recorded four assists in 32 appearances for his club.
His soft touch and creative play caught the eye of Barcelona, according to Goal.com, and a solid performance could catapult him into the spotlight.
After his performance at the Olympics, Isco may be on his way to one of the world's top club.
(4)Takashi Usami, Midfielder, Japan
Takashi Usami is a versatile attacker who could be the next Japanese midfielder to star in the Bundesliga.
His compatriot Shinji Kagawa helped Borussia Dortmund win the German league, and Kagawa is now with Manchester United.
Usami was on loan with Bayern Munich last season, but did not see the pitch very often. He will play with 1899 Hoffenheim this coming year, still on loan from his Japanese side Gamba Osaka.
The 20-year-old could be used on the wing or behind the strikers, and he can beat defenses in a variety of ways. The Olympics may be the start of Usami's breakout year.
(5)Zakaria Labyad, Forward, Morocco
Labyad is a 19-year-old winger who plays for Sporting Lisbon.
He came up through the youth ranks at PSV EIndhoven and scored seven goals in 26 league appearances, before the Portuguese club signed him earlier this summer.
Ladyad is one of the most exciting talents in the tournament, and he has the pace and skill to dominate opposing defenses.
This youngster has a bright future ahead of him and his rise to international stardom could start this summer in London. Last edited by antagenaiz on 31-7-2012 10:14 AM \n\n |
