Rear wings are important for racecars as they are larger than those on road cars, the cars themselves are lighter, and they are looking to shave fractions of a second off lap times. However on road cars, not only are they not made large enough, but they have less of a difference at 100mph than having a child in the passenger seat of the car.

Basically, they are there because they look cool.
