Former newscaster Norzie thanks Zambry for helping niece who was attacked in Dublin
By Safeek Affendy Razali - December 5, 2022 @ 11:57pm

KUALA LUMPUR: Former newscaster Norzie Pak Wan Chek took to social media to express her gratitude to Foreign Minister Senator Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Wisma Putra and the Malaysian embassy in Ireland for helping her niece and friends who experienced a racial attack in Dublin, Ireland recently.

On Saturday, Norzie said her niece, a friend and the friend's two siblings had gone out for a last minute shopping before they were to fly home very early the next morning.

She said all four of them were waiting for a bus to take them back to their Airbnb rental when they were jeered at by a group of teenage boys who started throwing an empty can at her niece and tossed leftover fries picked up from the floor of a restaurant they were at.

Norzie wrote that when more people came to join the group of boys, they decided to walk to the bus station to avoid any confrontation, but the attackers refused to leave them be.

She said the group pursued and circled around them on their bicycles, occasionally braking hard near her niece and the rest to scare them and even threatened to kill her.

"Four of the boys removed their bicycle seat posts and started hitting my niece at the back of her neck. My niece's friend and the friend's brother quickly shielded her, and not once laid a hand on the attackers as they were clearly outnumbered.

"The rest of the boys then stepped in and started punching the friend and my niece's arms, eyes and backs.

"The boys only left after my niece managed to dial 999 and got through to the police, while the friend's younger sister screamed for help. It was raining and dark," said Norzie.

She added that when the police did not arrive 30 minutes later, a kind passerby gave them a lift to the nearest police station about three minutes away to file a report.

The worried Norzie then said she decided to contact a friend at Wisma Putra and within minutes, Zambry had personally called her and promised that the four would be taken care of.

They were given medical assistance before leaving Dublin and arrived home today.

"What had happened to my niece and her friends that night should not happen to anyone.

"But, I must say this, that on Sunday (Dec 4), Zambry had yet to clock in (officially as the foreign minister), but he came through for me. He and his team went all out (to offer assistance).

"From the bottom of my heart, thank you sir. I know now that Wisma Putra is in good hands."

Terima kasih Menteri Luar, Wisma Putra - Norzie Pak Wan Chek

THANK YOU, WISMA PUTRA

My niece recently had to endure a terrifying late night racist attack in Dublin, Ireland.  She was with a friend, her younger brother and sister who had come to visit. They were to leave for Malaysia very early the next morning and had gone out to do some last-minute shopping.

By 8.15pm all four were waiting for a bus to take them back to their Airbnb rental. It was at this time that they were jeered at by a group of teenage boys who started throwing an empty can at my niece and tossing dirty fries from the floor of a restaurant they were waiting at.

Subsequently, more came to join the group of boys. My niece, her siblings and friend walked back to the bus station to avoid confrontation.

The boys wouldn’t give up but quickly pursued and circled around them on their bicycles, occasionally braking hard near my niece and the rest to scare them. “I’ll f***ing kill you!” they threatened. Four boys removed their bicycle seatposts and started beating my niece at the back of her neck.

My niece’s friend and brother quickly reacted by shielding her, not once laying a hand on the attackers as they were clearly outnumbered. The rest of the boys then stepped in and started punching the friend and my nephew in the arm, eyes and on their backs.  The boys only left after my niece managed to dial 999 and got through to the police, while her younger sister screamed loudly for help. It was raining and dark.

30 minutes later when the police still hadn’t arrived, a kind passerby gave them a lift to the nearest police station three-minutes away to file a report. After that was done, all four were still shaking from fear.

What happened to my loved ones that night should never happen to anyone.

Traumatized and injured late at night on a weekend in a foreign country, I decided to reach out to Wisma Putra through my friend Yuyu Aziz. Within minutes, the recently sworn-in foreign minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry Abd. Kadir contacted Yuyu to inform her that he had spoken to the Secretary General, Dato' Sri Amran Mohamed Zin to take the necessary action. YB Minister also called me personally and promised that the four of them would be taken care of.

Shortly after, the Secretary General had deployed Wisma Putra officers and the Malaysian embassy staff in Dublin who were already calling me to get things done and fast.

By this time it was already around 3am Dublin time. I was worried. I stayed up all night to make sure my nieces, nephew and friend were safe.

By 5am, the Chargè d’affaires in Dublin, Puan Nadzira Abd Razak and her colleague Thulianati Amira Zainal Abidin from Malawakil Dublin were already at the airport providing medical and boarding assistance for those travelling home.

They later escorted my niece back on a 2-hour drive all the way to Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel where she works at to get her the medical attention needed. They waited until everything was done, sent her home, ensured she was okay and then drove back.

Alhamdulillah.
Alhamdulillah.
Alhamdulillah.

In KL, Wisma Putra’s divisional secretary was making the necessary arrangements at the transit point and on ground at KLIA together with Malaysia Airports and Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia officers.  My niece, nephew and friend arrived today. They were assisted the moment they disembarked from the plane, were given medical assistance at KLIA, immediately referred to Serdang Hospital and transported there by ambulance. As I write, they are being treated by the doctors.

I don’t know how to even begin thanking everyone that has helped. I don’t think that’s possible. There were just too many of them who went above and beyond their call of duty to assist four individuals halfway across the globe to make them feel safe and cared for.

But I must say this, that on Sunday the 4th of December the minister hadn’t clocked in yet. Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir was not on official duty but he helped me anyway. He and his team went all out.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Sir. I know now that Wisma Putra is in good hands.

SELAMATKAH IRELAND / DUBLIN?

Didoakan segera sembuh, pulih seperti sediakala.

Syabas kepada semua yang membantu.

Jaga diri, selebihnya, tawakkal ‘alallah.

Hasrizal
Naas, Ireland.

From my experience,  Irish ni in general baik macam Malaysian, to be exact  perangai byk similarity dgn bangsa Melayu
Tapi budak2 jahat memang ada especially kat area yg ada social housing, so mmg kena avoid ada kat area ni
Lewat malam kalau pakai tudung jgn keluar sebab diorang kuat minum
Masa tu memang keluar perangai teruk diorang, racial slur semua tu
