The Belgian crane market grew by X% to $X in 2020, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, consumption continued to show a clear downward trend. In 2014, the growth rate was the fastest, and the market value increased by X% year-on-year. During the period under review, the market peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, 2020 crane production is estimated to fall to X dollars at export prices. During the review period, production suddenly decreased. The fastest growth in 2019, with an X% year-on-year increase in production. Crane production peaked at $X in 2007; however, production has remained low from 2008 to 2020.

Belgian crane export market

In 2020, overseas shipments of cranes and mobile cranes increased by X% to X units, increasing for the fourth consecutive year after declining for three consecutive years. Overall, however, exports continued to show a slight downward trend. During the period under review, exports reached an all-time high of X units in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, exports were slightly lower.

Crane exports surged to $X in 2020 by value. During the period under review, however, there was a marked decline in exports. Exports peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, exports have been at lower levels.

Germany (X units), the Netherlands (X units) and France (X units) were the main destinations for Belgian crane exports, accounting for X% of total exports. This is followed by the United States, Nigeria, Israel, Spain, Egypt, the United Kingdom, Haiti, Poland, Luxembourg and Canada, which have further increased shipments from 2007 to 2020, with the largest increase in Nigeria, while other Leaders experienced a more modest pace of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the United States ($X) make up the largest market for Belgium’s global crane exports, together accounting for X% of total exports. This is followed by Germany, Israel, Nigeria, Spain, United Kingdom, Haiti, Canada, Egypt, Luxembourg and Poland, which together account for another X times (+X% per year) and the highest growth rate.

During the period under review, the value of exports from major destination countries, while shipments from other leaders grew at a more modest rate.

Belgian crane import scale

In 2020, the supply of cranes and mobile cranes from abroad increased by X% to X units, increasing for the second consecutive year after declining for four consecutive years. Overall, however, there has been a marked contraction in imports. Imports peaked at X units in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, import volumes have remained low.

Crane imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2020 by value. During the period under review, however, there was a marked decrease in imports. The rate of growth was most pronounced in 2008, when imports increased by X% year-on-year. As a result, imports peaked at X dollars. From 2009 to 2020, import growth remained low.

Germany (X units), Italy (X units) and the Netherlands (X units) were the main suppliers of crane imports to Belgium, together accounting for X% of total imports. France, Finland, Poland, Austria, Morocco, Sweden, Kazakhstan and Ghana are a little behind, with Poland achieving the most significant sourcing growth (+ X% per year) among the major suppliers between 2007 and 2020, while the others The leader’s imports grew at a more modest pace.

Germany ($X) is the largest crane supplier in Belgium by value, accounting for X% of total imports. In second place is Italy ($X) with X% of total imports. It is followed by the Netherlands with an X% share.

Average annual value growth in Germany from 2007 to 2020 was relatively modest. The average annual growth rates of imports in the remaining supplier countries are as follows: Italy (+X% per annum) and the Netherlands (-X% per annum).

Statistics of various crane suppliers in Belgium

Germany is Belgium’s largest crane supplier by value, accounting for 42% of total imports. In second place is Italy, with 13% of total imports. It is followed by the Netherlands with a share of 8.9%.

The biggest markets for Belgian crane exports by value are France, the Netherlands and the United States, which together account for 35% of total exports. Germany, Israel, Nigeria, Spain, the United Kingdom, Haiti, Canada, Egypt, Luxembourg and Poland are slightly behind, with a combined 42%.

The average export price of cranes in 2020 was $3,516 per unit, down -4.8% from the previous year.

The average price of crane imports in 2020 was $3,795 per unit, down -65.1% from the previous year.
