ALOR STAR: Staff at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital today were stunned when they saw a woman jumped off from the 5th floor ledge of the hospital building today.
The 33-year-old woman, whose name was withheld, however, survived the fall. She had apparently landed on the 2nd floor roof of the hospital, sustaining a broken backbone.
In a 22-second video which has gone viral on social media, the woman was seen standing on the ledge and appeared to be contemplating her next move.
When the nurses tried to approach her, the woman suddenly leapt off the ledge and landed on the 2nd floor roof, out of the video's line of sight.
The incident was said to have occurred at 5.30pm today during the hospital's evening visiting hour.
It was believed that the woman had sneaked out onto the ledge via a window.
Kedah Health Department director Dr Norhizan Ismail said the woman came to the hospital to visit a friend who is warded.
"X-ray showed that she suffered a broken backbone as a result from the fall.
"She is now in stable condition and we will conduct more test on her," he said in a statement.
