LIVERPOOL FC look like being priced out of a move for Gylfi Sigurdsson after they refused to meet the player’s ‘wild’ wage demands.

Tottenham Hotspur have moved into pole position to sign the Icelandic midfielder after they agreed to match his salary requests.

That figure is believed to be nearly 50% more than what the Reds were willing to offer.

Liverpool had held extensive talks with the 22-year-old and put together a generous deal for a player of Sigurdsson’s experience.However it appears the club and player are divided in their valuation.

The Reds’ American owners, the Fenway Sports Group, are reluctant to hand out bumper contracts having been lumbered with the lavish deals which brought players such as Joe Cole to the club.

Manager Brendan Rodgers made no secret of his desire to bring Sigurdsson to Anfield having worked with him at Swansea City but Liverpool are understood to have baulked at his wage demands.

Spurs are believed to have had an ￡8m offer accepted by the player’s parent club Hoffenheim and though personal terms are still to be agreed, have privately expressed their confidence the deal will be complete by the end of the week.

Sigurdsson is expected to undergo a medical at White Hart Lane on Friday.

After it became clear Sigurdsson would be willing to U-turn on his proposed permanent move to Swansea, having spent last season on loan at the Liberty Stadium, Liverpool FC were immediately installed as front-runners for his signature.

It was believed that the prospect of working under Rodgers once more was the sole reason behind the Icelandic international’s change of heart over a transfer to the Swans, after he had agreed personal terms and the two clubs settled on a ￡6.8m fee.

But even with Rodgers showing his intent to bring him to Merseyside, Sigurdsson appears to have snubbed a move in search of a bigger financial package on offer at manager-less Spurs.

Liverpool, however, have not given up on the possibility of signing Sigurdsson but know Spurs are in the driving seat.

Liverpool Eye Surprise Move For Aston Villa Winger Marc Albrighton

Liverpool are set to raid Aston Villa for winger Marc Albrighton.
In a move that will underwhelm the Anfield faithful, boss Brendan Rodgers is preparing a ￡5 million bid for the 22-year-old who he believes has the potential to challenge for a place in Liverpool’s first team next season.
Albrighton, who can play on the right or left wing, has made 59 league appearances for Villa in three seasons, scoring 7 times, but was often left on the bench last term by former boss Alex McLeish.
Rodgers, however, is an admirer of the tricky youngster, who is capable of taking free-kicks and corners. The Northern Irish boss is yet to make a signing since moving to Merseyside from Swansea City last month but has identified his midfield and attack as in most need of strengthening.

The son of AC Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi has urged his father to pull of the shock transfer of the summer by signing Liverpool flop Andy Carroll.
Pier Silvio Berlusconi is targeting an influx of younger players to the San Siro and commented: “This is a new era for Milan. We will continue to get younger while maintaining the culture. Milan still has its superstars. As a future target I’d like Andy Carroll.
“I must admit that for his body build, and after seeing his header in the Euros, I would like to have Carroll at Milan,” he added, reports the Metro.
Berlusconi Jnr. is the president of Mediaset, the Italian TV company that owns AC. In recent seasons he has acted as consultant on the Rossoneri’s transfer business as the legendary club attempt to overhaul their ageing squad.
This summer alone the likes of Flippo Inzaghi, 38, Clarence Seedorf, 36, Mark Van Bommel, 35, Alessandro Nesta, 36, and Gennaro Gattuso, 34, have all left the club and Carroll has been identified as a future leader of the next generation at the San Siro.
The 23-year-old joined Liverpool for ￡35 million in January 2011 but has failed to have the desired impact at Anfield, scoring just four league goals last season.
Milan are yet to splash the cash this summer, preferring to bring in free-transfers such as Riccardo Montolivo and Bakaye Traore but Liverpool are sure to be tempted if the Serie A side lodge an impressive bid for the England star.
